Press Release–Behind The Bikeshed help Planet Rock DJ raise money for charity

btbsAdmin | 18/11/2015 10:51:50

Wyatt Wendels is the well-known voice of Planet Rock’s flagship daily show. What many listeners may not be aware of is that Wyatt is a keen cyclist and has completed many rides in recent years to raise money for a number of charities. His next ride is on 3rd December and covers 185 miles from London to South Wales. This might not seem much of a challenge to some but there is a twist. Wyatt is finishing his show in London at 2pm and riding non-stop through the night, arriving at the Planet Rockstock festival at breakfast time the next day. This ride is raising money for CALM, the charity that deals with the taboo issue of suicide in young males and he has already exceeded his £10,000 target.

Behind The Bikeshed are regular Planet Rock listeners and we also follow Wyatt on Twitter. After an initial enquiry via a Tweet to Wyatt to see if we could help in some way, things moved very quickly. We approached our retail partner Giant Bicycles UK to see if they could provide a bike for the ride in December. As Wyatt already rode a Giant bike they were only too pleased to help and have been absolutely fantastic in offering a bike for not only this ride but also other rides planned for 2016. It’s not just any old bike either, as Wyatt has been loaned a new TCR Advanced SL 2, which should make a tough task that much easier. In addition Behind The Bikeshed have provided Wyatt with Giant shoes and helmet and a pair of Oakley Radarlock glasses.

Ricki Cumberland, Marketing Assistant at Giant UK, said ‘Wyatt’s raised a huge amount of money for good causes over the years and we are delighted to be able to help him’.

Bernard Baker, owner of the family run Behind The Bikeshed, added ‘It just goes to show the power of Social Media. A casual approach to Wyatt has ended up with Giant and us supporting Wyatt in his charity commitments throughout the next 12 months. He sets himself difficult challenges with the rides he undertakes and we are sure the TCR and kit will help the miles pass by more quickly.’
